ALL DOLLED UP! 29 Sep 2006

Sylvain Sylvain
, the prime-mover and guitarist in the New York Dolls, joins MOJO’s editor-in-chief Phil Alexander on MOJO Radio’s weekly rock show this evening at 9.00pm.

As well as playing a number of tracks from the Dolls’ new album, One Day It Will Please Us To Remember Even This, Sylvain – pictured here on the left with Phil Alexander - talks openly about getting over-excited by rock’n’roll (“it makes me run around naked!”), sharing Perrier with Michael Stipe and the triumph and tragedy of life in one of the most combustible bands of all-time.
Also on the programme: Jerry Lee Lewis’s Last Man Standing is the Album Of The Week, and there’s new music from Vincent Vincent And The Villains, Sean Lennon and Sparklehorse.

Phil Alexander hosts MOJO Rocks at 9.00pm every Friday on MOJO Radio. Tune in via Sky Digital (channel 0182) or Freeview (channel 721) or right here. The show is repeated Sunday night’s at 9.00pm.

Win a trip to Tennessee!1 Sep 2006

Mojo Radio and The JD Set offers you the chance to visit Lynchburg, Tennessee to celebrate Mr Jack’s Birthday with Frank Black, Guy Garvey, Richard Hawley and a specially formed band of Tennessee musicians...

To round off the festivities of Jack Daniel’s birthday month in September, we’re excited to announce what will undoubtedly be one of the most unique gigs of the year. Frank Black, Guy Garvey and Richard Hawley will be joining forces on stage for a one-off show with a band of established Tennessee musicians, brought together for one night only. They will play at the distillery in the tiny town of Lynchburg on 6th October 2006 to a select audience flown in from the UK, and MOJO Radio listeners will have the chance to be there. In the spirit of all JD Sets, after the gig, the band will celebrate Mr Jack’s Birthday with the fans.

One winner plus a friend will jet over to the US on Thursday 5th October and spend an amazing weekend with return flights on United Airlines and 4-star accommodation provided. Guests will also be treated to a tour of the distillery in Lynchburg, the oldest registered distillery in the US, where every single drop of Jack Daniel’s is made.  Birthday celebrations will officially start on Friday night, after an authentic southern BBQ, Black, Hawley and Garvey will perform live on the site of the distillery.
